OUR MALMÖ CITY GUIDE

Below we have created our very own city guide with some of our personal favorite and must-see’s while you’re in town. We’ve gathered our local favorites spots in and surrounding Skanör (see Skanör Guide in the menu bar), as well as our go-to’s in Malmö if you want to sight-see.

First things first: Sweden is pretty much a cash-free country. Yes, literally. Most restaurants don’t accept cash, buses don’t accept cash, the list goes on. Your credit card is your best friend here.

If you’ve decided to explore Malmö city, transportation in Sweden is as easy as ordering an Uber most of the time. The local buses will take you pretty much wherever you want to go, and you’ll avoid the hazzle of having to find parking (oh, and you can enjoy that glass of wine too). Visit www.skanetrafiken.se to find what bus you need to get on (and where to get off). You can buy your bus ticket directly online, or pay with your credit card on the bus. If you’d rather the convenience of a taxi, our local taxi company’s phone number is +46 453300. When in Malmö, you can either call the local taxi company, or find taxis near most bus and train stations. Make sure you ask what they will charge you, you shoudn’t have to pay more than 500-600 Swedish kronor from Malmö to Skanör.

RESTAURANTS

Atmosfär is located in the heart of Malmö, a formal yet relaxed eatery on the main road; dine at the bar, in the restaurant or on the pavement terrace. Fun fact – Sofia’s uncle Björn opened this restaurant back in the days. Oh, and they received a Michelin Star in 2020.

Located right next door to Atmosfär is newly opened Escama – Spanish Tapas in the heart of Malmö. Escama considers themselves to be a Gastrobar, meaning you order as you go and let your hunger decide. Eat lot, eat a little (we suggest you eat a lot, it never disappoints).

Lyran is their own version of an urban inn, set in humble & vibrant Möllevången. Their local farmers, fisherfolk, hunters & gatherers, shopkeepers, and cheesemakers together with local and not- so local brewers, vintners & cidermakers provide their best seasonal ingredients. They create their best dishes and drinks each day from what they have at hand

Located in the center of Malmo City on Gustav Adolfs Torg is Icha Mochi, with sushi and poke bowls to satisfy anyone craving just that. This is probably the most Instagrammed food in Malmö lately, and we totally think they deserve the hype.

Oh our beloved MJ’s. Where do we begin? This hotel was originally a boutique hotel where Sofia’s parents spent their first night as newly weds. The hotel was been completely renovated a few year ago, and became MJ’s. A Miami meets Sweden inspired place with a vibe that feels “life’s a big party.” Whether you want to stay for a night, have dinner at their restaurant, or just grab a cocktail in their hotel bar, just make sure you visit!

At Lilla Torg you can mingle with locals at a bar or restaurant, enjoy design and architecture exhibitions and listen to live music. The square is characterized by cobblestone pavements and half-timbered houses. It’s an important meeting point and the epicenter of the city’s nightlife. We don’t necessarily recommend a full dinner here, but grabbing a beer or a glass of wine in the late afternoon is a must.

The long shopping stroll in Malmö begins at Stortorget and stretches all the way to the Triangle mall. If you are limited on time, stay within Stortorget and Gustav Adolfs Torg, and make sure to visit Hansa Kompaniet, the city shopping mall, as well as Åhlens, a larger department store. If you’re really in a shopping mood, a visit to Emporia in Hyllie could be worth your while. The mall offers over 220 stores, and Is one of the largest malls in Scandinavia.

Västra Hamnen (the West harbour) is a new and modern district in Malmö. It is located on a former shipyard area right on the ocean, and is built to be completely carbon-neutral. Located in Västra Hamnen is Turning Torso, Malmö's new landmark and the tallest sky scraper in all of Scandinavia.

Malmö Saluhall is the obvious destination for anyone who loves quality produce and delicious food. For the melting pot of culture, creativity and fun that is Malmö. For old and young, big and small. A food market for everyone. A warm welcome to a food-lovers paradise.

Spegeln is an old-school movie theatre located on Stortorget. It was built in 1934, and has been re-named twice since. In 2014, Spegeln opened its own bistro and bar, and became the first movie theatre in Malmo to offer full dining.

The boulebar opened up in 2000 and has been grown to eight locations since, and this is only the beginning. This place is created for the people: a place to relax and have fun; where age, size, grades, income, nothing matters. Enjoy this French game with your friends, have a snack, a full meal, and grab a drink or a cold beer while you play.

These paddle boats are rented out by Cityboats in the Malmö canal, which runs through the city center and large park areas. This is a fun activity and a unique way of exploring the city. Bring snacks and something to drink, and paddle your way through the Malmo canal.
