OUR SKANÖR GUIDE
Below we have created our very own city guide with some of our personal favorite and must-see’s while you’re in town. We’ve gathered our local favorites spots in and surrounding Skanör, as well as our go-to’s in Malmö if you want to sight-see (see Malmö Guide in menu bar).
First things first: Sweden is pretty much a cash-free country. Yes, literally. Most restaurants don’t accept cash, buses don’t accept cash, the list goes on. Your credit card is your best friend here.
If you are looking to explore Skanör and its surrounding areas, we highly recommend you rent a bike at the hotel. You can also travel by bus to nearby towns, as well as drive if you’ve rented a car. Most areas have parking available, but the beaches in particular can be tricky and we’d recommend biking if possible.

RESTAURANTS

A café and restaurant in the heart of Falsterbo, located only a short walk from the beach. During the summer, Café Kust is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Come for a full meal, a “fika”, or just to enjoy a glass of wine after the beach. Fun fact – Sofia had her high school graduation reception here the summer before she moved to Boston.
Located in Skanör Harbour, Badhytten has a lot to offer. Whether you want to grab lunch, have ice cream, a cold beer after a day on the beach, or put your nicest outfit on and come for dinner, you can do it all at Badhytten. The name Badhytten means beach hut, and is inspired by all the beach huts you see on the beaches surrounding Skanör, Falsterbo and Ljunghusen.
Bar Bistro is located in Ljunghusen where Sofia grew up, and has become popular from its easy-going attitude. The restaurant's building is the town's old train station built in 1902, and the location overlooks Öresundsbron, the bridge that connects Sweden and Denmark. In 2020, Bistro's sister restaurant Bar Porto opened in Ljunghusen Harbour.

The “Fish House” is located in Skanör harbor like many of our other recommendations. This simpler restaurant expanded over the winter and doubled in size. They offer pretty much anything you can find in the ocean, to either bring home and cook on your own, or choose a dish from their menu to eat on their deck outside. This is a true mix between a store and restaurant, and perfect if you’re craving seafood.
The newest addition to Skanör harbor, “the deck,” offers views some didn’t think were possible. As they describe it themselves, it’s like they brought a little piece of the Maldives to the Swedish coast. Bryggan offers a simpler menu with large Italian sourdough pizzas, charcuterie, salads, and drinks.
All the way down in Skanör harbor you’ll find J Persson, a Spanish tapas spot with a large outdoor deck to dine on. Come as you are, and enjoy, laugh, eat, dance. If you want to try a true Swedish new classic, you must order the “Löjromspizza,” a white pizza with white fish roe, red onions, crème fraiche, and Västerbotten cheese. Super luxe, super delicious.

Although the restaurant is currently closed for redevelopment, we find it worth to mention this restaurant anyways. This is part of the OG Skanör harbor of places to eat, as the restaurant has been around for many years. They still have a small shop connected to the restaurant that is worth visiting while you’re strolling in the harbor.
Skanörs Gästgifvaregård is part of the same family as Hotell Gässlingen. The hotel has two restaurants, one serving an “A La Carte” menu in their main restaurant, the other one offering Swedish comfort food in what they call their “back pocket” restaurant. Gästis is also known for hosting seasonal events, such as “Mårten Gås” dinner, which is an old-school tradition where gees is served.
Picture your typical country club, except you dont have to be a member to dine at the golf restaurants. Ljunghusen GK is our personal favorite, and we always make sure we have a lunch scheduled here when we go back to Sweden. Falsterbo GK, as well as Flommen, also offer their own spins on Swedish comfort food. Getting a green fee to golf can be close to impossible, but enjoying a lunch at either of these courses is not.
PLACES TO VISIT/THINGS TO DO

Ljunghusen’s Golf Course is one of Sweden’s oldest courses, established in 1932. It was the first course in Sweden to offer 27 holes, and it has been ranked one of the top courses in Europe. LGK is surrounded by the ocean, beaches, and a nature preserve. Once done golfing, you can enjoy a wonderful lunch in the restaurant, known for serving traditional (and delicious) Swedish comfort food.
One of the best parts about Skanör, Falsterbo and Ljunghusen are all the beautiful white sand beaches. Each one has its own charm, and they’ve all been voted to be some of the top beaches in all of Europe. If you’re in Falsterbo, make sure to visit Falsterbo Strandbad, a restaurant and art gallery in a newly designed building right on the beach.
HOLKEN
Although Skanör isn’t exactly known for its shopping, we still know of a few hidden gems we need to share. First up is Holken, a small boutique with a mix of interior design and clothing, and one of our personal favorites.

SOMMARBODEN
Another favorite of ours is Sommarboden, located in Höllviken. This store has been open since 1929 and offers everything summer related: outdoor furniture, interior design, as well as swimwear, beachwear and gifts.
FALSTERBO TOFFLAN
This place is a must-see while you are around. If you are looking for the ultimate souvenir while you are in Sweden, in particular the south, this is where you will find it. Known for the clogs, this store will custom make yours with your name and preferred design. They also offer posters, smaller souvenirs, hats, and more.
TOPPENGALLERIAN
This smaller size mall is located in Höllviken, about 15 minutes by car from Hotell Gässlingen. Toppen is a great place for grocery shopping, last minute gift shopping, last minute shopping, etc. Located here is the only liquor store in all of the area, along with the only movie theater, and fast food place (Burger King). It's truly a suburban mall that has just what you need.

A raspberry farm located a 20 minute drive from Skanör, with a boutique and cafe, as well as raspberry picking during certain days a week. Fun fact, this is Sofia's friend's family owned business where she used to spend many summers both working and hanging out.
Slättarps gård offers interior shopping, clothing, as well as delicious food on a beautiful farm. They have recently opened a vintage store as well, with carefully chosen pieces for sale.
A cozy boutique and cafe right off the exit in Vellinge, roughly 20 minutes from Skanön on your way from Malmö. The boutique has beautiful home decor, and the cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating offers a typical Swedish menu.
